Frequently Asked Questions
- I bought a new PC and am reinstalling the software. What do I need to do?
- What data synchronizes to my handheld?
- Contacts, Calendar and Tasks.
- If you use ACT! and CompanionLink Pro, you can get Company records synchronized to the Contact List and Opportunities synchronized to the Task List.
- Email sync is set up using your device and your email mailbox. CompanionLink does not synchronize email. Call your carrier for help in setting up email.
- What data synchronizes to my iPhone?
- You can set up Outlook sync with iTunes. Then, CompanionLink can synchronize ACT (or other contact managers) to Outlook. You can do this with CompanionLink Express.
- You can set up wireless sync directly from your PC to the iPhone. Wireless sync includes Tasks as well as Contacts and Calendar. You can do this with iClink and CompanionLink Pro.
- What other devices can I sync wirelessly with?
- My sync didn't work. What should I do?
- Large number of records: Try synchronizing with a smaller database or smaller group. It may be that your phone/device ran out of memory. If a smaller database works, then try using Groups or eliminating old records.
- First time sync, ACT! Database: If the sync does not work, you may have corruption in your ACT! file. In ACT!, select File->Tools->Database Maintenance.
- Outlook (any version): If the sync does not work, you may have corruption in your Outlook file. The Microsoft scanpst utility will resolve this issue.
- Windows Vista - Windows Mobile Handheld: You must install Windows Mobile Device Center from Microsoft. If the device fails to connect, check firewall settings to be sure that Windows Mobile Device Center is an enabled program for connection.
- CompanionLink Wireless sync: Be sure that you have installed the correct software on your device, and that you have entered your name and password on the device.
- BES Server, MobileMe, Exchange Server wireless: Be sure that the sync is installed and working before configuring CompanionLink.
- See our Troubleshooting: My Data is Not Transferring webpage.
- What is the difference between CompanionLink Express, CompanionLink Pro, CompanionLink for Google, DoubleLook, DoubleNotes and DoubleLook Enterprise?
- CompanionLink Express is a simple and easy way to move data from ACT! (or other contact managers) to Outlook or any handheld device.
- CompanionLink Pro is required for Wireless sync. It allows synchronizing multiple data sources, like both ACT! and Palm Desktop to an iPhone. It also adds additional features for ACT! including synchronization of Company Records and Opportunities. For more information, go here: Express vs Pro.
- CompanionLink for Google is a lower cost version just for synching Google Calendar, Contacts and Tasks to any device. CompanionLink Pro also supports synchronization to Google.
- DoubleLook is a real-time application. It eliminates the need to hit the sync button, and automatically moves your changes. DoubleLook moves data between ACT! (or other contact managers) and Outlook, DoubleNotes moves data from ACT! (or other contact managers) to Lotus Notes.
- DoubleLook Enterprise is a server based product for companies who wish to automate synchronization for 5 or more users.
- I'm using CompanionLink and just got a new/replacement phone. What do I do?
- Wireless sync: Install our wireless software on the handheld, enter your user name and password. Reread from PC.
- Wired sync: Make sure that the new handheld can connect to the PC. Configure CompanionLink to use the new device and purge and reload from PC.
